We are an independent congregation of disciples of Jesus drawn together by a common faith. We are striving to imitate the worship and service of the Christians of New Testament times and to achieve the purity that is set forth in the scripture. For this reason we make every effort to “Speak where the Bible speaks, and to be silent where it is silent.” Our aim is to have a biblical basis for all items of faith and practice.
We believe that all Christians have access to God through Christ Jesus, without the need of any other human being or human organization. We also believe that in worship, every disciple should be offered the opportunity to participate in the mutual praise and edification in a dignified and orderly manner.
In addition, we believe that the New Testament scriptures of the Bible, which are divinely inspired, provide the basis for the teaching of the Church. This includes information on such subjects as Christian living, worship and church government (2 Peter 1:3). The government has Christ as the head of the Church (Ephesians 1:22–23, 5:23 and Colossians 1:18), elders overseeing the local congregation, shepherding and feeding the flock (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2), deacons serving the church by tending to physical needs of the congregation (Acts 6:1–6; 1 Timothy 3:8-13) and evangelists, appointed by the elders, proclaiming the gospel, preaching and teaching, establishing new congregations, and assisting those new groups in the development of new leaders (Titus 1:5)
The Bible presents the New Testament Church as a unified body made up of believers who follow the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles as contained in the Word. The Church of Christ in Nixa, Missouri believes in that unity contained in the scriptures. With that belief, this church will continue to follow those teachings and not be led by the doctrines of men, which divide the religious world into many denominations. We will strive to follow the plan that the Apostles started in the first century and to conduct ourselves according to that plan.
We also believe that congregations should assemble on the first day of each week to worship, to partake of the Lord’s Supper in memory of the sacrifice of Christ (Acts 20:7), to praise God in singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians3:16), to pray (Acts 12:5); to study the Word of God and encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11; Ephesians 4:16) and to give as we have been prospered, so that funds will be available to help the needy and support the preaching of the gospel ( 1 Corinthians 16:1–2; 2 Corinthians 9:7).
Members of the Church of Christ strive to live according to God’s word and are concerned with saving souls and telling the story of Jesus and his sacrifice.
